A beautiful hotel with comfortable rooms, and a well-designed thalassotherapy centre. Located on Côte de Corail, at one of the far ends of the tourist areas. The Genoese Fort of Tabarka is still visible at the back of the bay, the city centre is only a few minutes' taxi ride away... Comfort, peace and quiet and a beautiful panorama: a hotel to be recommended to everyone, families, groups of friends, anyone interested in marine body care. It is very good value.

    Location 7.55 /10

By the sea, on one end of the tourist area (Tunis-side). Tabarka's town centre is 1.5 mi from the hotel. The airport is 7 mi away. Allow approximately 10 minutes for transfers.

    Accommodation 7.95 /10

The only difference between the rooms of the villas and those of the main building is the bathroom: they are equipped with a bathtub and a separate shower in the villas, and a bathtub and a shower head in the central building. As for the surface area, the 1st category rooms (basic) are 323 sq ft interior and balcony; the suites (junior and senior) are more spacious. In the central building, the rooms overlook the sea and the swimming pool, the peaceful golf course, or the hotel's main entrance (noisy because of the activities of Club Paradise). In the villas, choose a room with a view of the sea (for an extra charge); otherwise you will see the car park from your balcony, the surrounding walls, or even the pathway leading to the accommodation. The rooms of all categories are stylishly designed: dark wooden and braided fibre furniture, Berber bed mats, contemporary style wall lights. Amenities include plastic armchairs and coffee table on the balcony, a TV, a mini-bar, a telephone, air-conditioning and a safe. There is a hair-dryer in the bathroom, bathrobes and Iberostar hospitality products (20 ml).

    Overview 8.20 /10

Open in July 2007, the Iberostar Tabarka Beach has 253 rooms (and suites), including 129 in the main block (also housing the reception, the bars and restaurants, the thalassotherapy centre), and the rest (124 rooms) in 1-storey adjacent villas, forming two extra blocks on either part of the central building. The entrance door opens onto the circular lobby, topped with a high dome. Daylight comes in through the bay windows at the back (that's where the lobby-bar is, extended by a terrace overlooking the swimming pool and the sea). The general look of the place is disappointing, however, because of the choice of colours (brown, yellow-brown, pearl grey), the sparse furniture and the discreetly placed plants which are hardly noticeable: a feeling of emptiness, coldness or of a hotel in its pre-opening phase. We would recommend the setting up of a Berber tent in the centre of the lobby; or an island planted with trees; or a fountain with colourful mosaic tiles. This revamp for the lobby can also be done for the terraces, the corridors and even the thalassotherapy centre. Some colourful paint, decorative pottery, or sculptures on lit-up supports would definitely brighten it up a bit... That said, the hotel offers everything you need for you to have a healthy and relaxing holiday: two outdoor swimming pools (stretching over approximately 49 ft in length or diameter), an indoor pool (65 ft long, perfect for swimming), a playground and a paddling pool. Deckchairs, square canvas parasols spread out around the brick-paved perimeter. Bath towels are available for a deposit.

    Food and drink 7.70 /10

The interior restaurants consist of one buffet restaurant and one à la carte. There is a terrace overlooking the swimming pool and the sea in both restaurant halls. However, the buffet restaurant hall, which is huge, could be improved by being divided into mobile partitions, so as to lose its impersonal aspect. Otherwise, come at the beginning of the service (especially in the morning for breakfast) so as to find a seat on the terrace. There is a superb view of the coast (partly made of rock in this place) and of the Genoese Fort at the back of the bay. The buffet is varied and well-presented for all meals. Fresh seasonal fruit (peaches, melons, watermelons in the summer), with pancakes and doughnuts prepared on request for breakfast in the morning. For lunch, there is "show-cooking" of pasta and the chef's special. Fish or carved meat for dinner - all these are the most appetizing options of the buffet. The all-inclusive option is available on reservation (+ £17.50 per day approximately, on top of the price for half-board): definitely opt for this if you want to have lunch at the hotel or have before or after dinner (local) drinks, coffee, beer or wine with your meals. Although the prices are generally reasonable in Tunisia, it is definitely worth it.

    Beach 7.20 /10

Cristal clear water, lawns overlooking the beach. The hotel looks over the Côte de Corail, which is absolutely beautiful, but not really adapted to swimming, or even sunbathing. Indeed, the sandy beach, as it is, stretches over 328ftx65ft: which isn't sufficient, considering the number of guests when the hotel is fully booked. Therefore, you will have to sunbathe on the lawns (which is not so bad). Deckchairs and straw huts set up in 1 or 2 rows: if you can manage to find a place, it is the ideal setting. It is, however, necessary to wear plastic sandals for swimming, because of the many rocks in the water. You don't feel like swimming in those conditions? Climb up over the rocky hill and down the other side in the direction of Tabaska's centre: and there you will find a public sandy beach, just next to the beaches of the Royal Golf and Yadis Morjane hotel. As for water sports, the Iberostar does not have any. There is no diving centre on site either. You will find them on Tabarka harbour, a short taxi ride away.

    To know

The Tabarka Beach is one of the best hotels in town. Without being a luxury establishment (such hotels need to be free of organised activities, have slightly fewer rooms, more greenery in the corridors and the communal areas, and a buffet restaurant divided into several sections), this hotel is the best choice for a beach holiday in Tabarka, particularly when you take into account the level of comfort and the amenities. The thalassotherapy centre deserves a special mention, as it covers an area of 2,500m² and has a daily capacity of 100 guests. Its facilities include a marine walkway with bay windows overlooking the shoreline, body wraps on water mattresses, hydromassages, affusion showers, jet showers and a foot massage bath. Sea water treatments are available on the garden level, while dry treatments (massages, aesthetic treatments) are offered on the first floor. There is also a Shiatsu and an Ayurvedic massage hut, with 4- to 6-day treatments and a half-day special offer package. A la carte, a 25 minute massage roughly costs £22. Make the most of it...
    Accommodation tip
Try to book into a room in the main building on the third and last floor overlooking the sea. Choose a standard room or a suite (located on the far ends of the building, nearer the coast). Make sure to avoid the 1st floor: on the side facing the sea, the view is restricted by the tiled rooftops and the lobby-bar terrace. You would also do well to avoid the villa accommodation (unless you come with a group of friends or have a large family). The sea view is further away, and you will find yourself closer to the neighbouring Paradise club (with noisy activities).

This is a hotel to keep in mind due to its central location in Tabarka's tourist zone, its Olympic-sized swimming pool (the only hotel to have one in the resort, although it is sometimes used as a training pool), its beautiful beach and its newly refurbished rooms. It should be noted, all the same, that the hotel welcomes many guests, and the communal areas (swimming pool solarium, restaurant) soon feel like a henhouse.

Well located on the sandy part of the coast, at the beginning of the touristic area of Tabarka (near the city and Genoese fort), the Dar Ismail is recommended in the low season: to avoid crowding round the swimming pool, the noise in the main restaurant, and the queues for the buffet. The hotel is beyond reproach in April-May or end-October. Note: The Dar Ismaïl is open all year-round; however, its covered leisure facilities are not very big.

A good hotel for athletic types, the Royal Golf, with its old-fashioned charm, is very well located for playing golf (alongside the Tabarka golf course) and recommended for diving, cycling and swimming. Perfect for a summer break in a pine forest, among the bougainvilleas. In other words, a simple, hassle-free stay. Those who are used to soundproofed, brand new hotels or resorts had best avoid the Royal Golf: they will find it more like a campsite or a youth hostel.

A simple hotel located next to the natural sand dunes of the Coral coast and not far from the centre of Tabarka. It is to be recommended for its welcome, reasonable prices and its authentic, Tunisian, pre-tourism ambiance, but only from March to September as it is closed during the winter months. However, there is a negative point as far as the layout is concerned, as the auxiliary block of rooms was built between the swimming pool and the sand dunes meaning that you cannot see the sea from the pool. Never mind, just go to the beach instead.
