Downtown in the Zhongshan district. The closest tube station is Zhongshan station, just a 5 min walking away. The international airport is 25 miles away; consider 45 minutes for the transfer.
The lobby is huge and impressive, with numerous luxury boutiques (Cartier, Christian Dior, Chanel, Hermes and Prada), bars and restaurants. This place named "The Regent Gallery" is renowed in all Taipei for shopping and to take advantage of the good deals of its duty free, one of the biggest in Asia. It has the style of huge shops galleries with a "Christmas market" area with wooden cabins. Built in September 1990 and renovated in 2006, the Grand Formosa Regent is composed of a 21-floor building accommodating 538 rooms served by 6 lifts. Open from 10 am to 11 pm, the Wellspring spa offers 5 massage areas on the terrace as well as aromatherapy treatments, sauna and jacuzzi. You will also find a rectangular swimming pool heated at 29 C° on the concrete terrace located on the 21st and last floor from where you can enjoy an absolutely wonderful view of Taipei. 4.2 feet deep, it is open from 6:30 am to 10 pm; you can find towels, showers, cabins, deckchairs with mattresses, sunshades and also a snack-bar. For sporty people, the Grand Formosa Regent offers a big fitness centre with the latest equipment, an aerobic room and a spinning room.
Vast corridors serve the 538 rooms of the Grand Formosa Regent, from the standard to the suite, all offering a very good level of comfort regardless the category. Covered with fitted carpet, they are spacious (45 m², the biggest ones in Taipei) and offer a sober and plain contemporary design with no paintings or particular patterns. They include a king-size bed, an armchair, a pocket torch, an alarm at the doors, a huge free safe with electronic code, an umbrella, an alarm-radio, a big plasma screen satellite TV broadcasting 40 channels equipped with a DVD player, discreet adjustable air conditioning, a minibar fridge with supplies for tea and coffee (as well as a large selection of liqueurs) and of course a telephone with wifi access and ADSL plug. An ingenious rotation system allows to turn the TV towards the room or the lounge depending on your needs. The cleanliness and soundproofing (double glazing) are impeccable and room service is ensured 24 hours a day. You have also the choice among 8 different pillows to make the most of your sleep! The window offers a splendid view of Taipei. The bathroom is spacious, clean and well decorated. If you stay in one of the two corner suites, you will benefit from a huge marble bathroom including a jacuzzi bathtub with flexible shower, a big separated tropical shower, two separate electronic automatic toilets, hairdryer, magnifying mirror, elaborate welcome products of the cosmetic brand used by the Wellspring spa, handkerchiefs, cotton buds, teeth brushing kit and shaving kit, comb, telephone, scale, slippers and bathrobes to relax after your bath. In short, it is pointless to take your toilet set with you ! There is also a TV with remote in the bathroom to watch your favourite TV show from the bathtub ! Two bottles of water are available free of charge. Constituted of a big room and a big lounge, the 60 suites also benefit from a big table to have dinner directly in the room thanks to the majordome service.
The choice is big, among no less than 8 restaurants with different atmospheres and cuisines prepared by internationally renowned chefs and accompanied with famous wines. Here it is the famous number 8 bringing luck according to Chinese numerology. Choose among the Japanese restaurant Mihan Honken, the Asian-Western mixed fusion cuisine Azie open day and night, the American steak-house Robin's Grill, its neighbouring Robin's Teppan restaurant serving a French cuisine in a teppanyaki Japanese style, the Shanghai cuisine at the Lan Ting, the Cantonese and Japanese cuisine of the Formosa Club and the Brasserie, the main buffet restaurant with open kitchen. Breakfast is open from 6 am to 10 am, lunch from 12 pm to 2:30 pm and dinner from 6 pm to 10 pm. The main restaurant's buffet allows to choose among dishes from Hong Kong, Taiwan, France, Italy, South Korea, Japan, Indonesia, Spanish tapas and also specialities from other countries! Finally, The Gallery offers delicious pastries, snacks and sandwiches all day long.
