The Monteforte Resort occupies a former residence that was the childhood home of its current owner, Salvatore. This is a heavenly spot in Ugento, at the very heart of the Salento region. It's true that it is a bit far from the sea, but it's ideally located if you want to visit the most famous communes of southern Apulia. The establishment has only five guest rooms, which bathe in a classy, luxurious and elegant atmosphere.

    • Located in Ugento, the Monteforte Resort stands at the heart of the Salento region, some 13 mi from Leuca and Gallipoli, and around 20 mi from Otranto.
The closest airports are Bari and Brindisi, respectively 150 and 60 mi away.

    • The five guest rooms of the Monteforte Resort occupy a building over one hundred years old (it dates from 1850) and here and there show traces of their long history, in a modern and refined setting. Needless to say that each room is unique. However they do have in common good amenities designed to make your stay as comfortable as possible, such as the flat-screen TV, the mini-bar, and the tea and coffee making facilities, complete with biscuits and jam. It is a true invitation to relax. Once you get here, you'll find it difficult to leave this elegant setting behind you.

The guest rooms of the Monteforte - two Junior suites, two Senior suites and one single room - occupy the first and second floors of the building. Each bears the name of a commune or tourist attraction of the Salento region. They feature a bathtub or a hydromassage shower, warm colours ranging from orange to yellow with touches of blue and green, sturdy wooden doors that are sometimes dark, sometimes light-coloured, private balconies and huge bathrooms, and also come in the form of honeymoon suites complete with small bedrooms for families with children... Each room has its own extra little attribute, and they all make for a highly enjoyable stay. However, if we had to recommend one room, we'd have to go for the 'Baia delle Zagare' suite, which we found absolutely fantastic.

After the first flight of steps, there is a stairway to the right that leads up to this famous suite: once inside, you'll discover a quiet and hushed atmosphere, decorated in warm tones emphasised by the daylight that filters in through the orange curtains. The bed is framed by the vaulted stone ceiling and there are cushions on the window sill, where you can sit and admire the rooftops of the small town of Ugento. The bathroom is huge and decorated with a lot of class. There is even a hydromassage bathtub for some added pampering.
    • Concealed in a narrow street in the centre of Ugento, a lovely little town in the heart of the Salento, the Monteforte Resort is the result of a beautiful renovation project conducted by Salvatore, the deserving owner of this quite unique establishment. The hotel was born from an original idea that is difficult to define. The building that houses the Monteforte Resort is Salvatore's former family home. It was built in 1850 and was abandoned for at least 30 years before undergoing a complete refurbishment. Except for the reception area, composed of an office where Salvatore greets arriving and departing guests, there are no common areas other than the splendid rooftop terrace.

This is located on the third floor and there's no lift, but it's well worth the effort: you'll discover a huge space where you can enjoy the sun and the Apulia breeze, comfortably seated at a table, partially surrounded by curtains that float gently in the wind.
    • The Monteforte Resort doesn't have a restaurant, but Salvatore is a connoisseur and if you ask for his advice, he'll quickly book a table for you somewhere.

Breakfast is served on the terrace, in Ugento's enchanting roof-top atmosphere, with white curtains that float in the wind.
