The Hotel Koh-I Nor is located in Val Thorens, in the Savoy department in the Rhône-Alpes region of France. It is has taken up residence at the heart of the world's largest ski resort, the Three Valleys. The Val Thorens resort sits at 2,300 meters above sea level, making it the highest ski resort in Europe and the highest point in the Three Valleys ski domain.
The SNCF train station closest to the hotel is the Moutiers Salins-les-Bains station, where both Eurostar and Thalys trains stop.
The nearest airport is Chambéry Airport, 68 miles away, followed by Grenoble Airport 87 miles away and Geneva Airport 100 miles away.
The hotel has Duo (26m²), Privilege (29m²), Superior (34m²) and Luxury (36 m²) rooms.
All of the guest rooms have a balcony and are equipped with a direct-dial telephone line, a satellite television, Pay-TV, a DVD player, a safe, Wi-Fi, and a bathroom with a bathtub and shower and separate toilets. In terms of decor, the guest rooms feature warm and light shades and various materials such as wood, dressed stone, leather and fur. All topped off with designer lights, luxury bedding, sophisticated furniture and modern technologies.
The hotel also has 57m² Communicating family rooms and 68m² Prestige rooms, as well as 41m² Junior Suites with living room areas and 60m² Suites.
The Hotel Koh-I Nor is a 5-star hotel that opened in December 2013. Its location perched above the Val Thorens ski resort means that it is the highest hotel in Europe. The new gem of the resort, the Hotel Koh-I Nor is aptly named, since it is also the name of the world's largest diamond which decorates the British crown.
With such a name, you can image that the establishment is not for just any clientèle, even though the hotel's Managing Director states that he "wants to create something for everyone, simple and accessible". Clearly focused on luxury, although not ostentatious, and well-being, the Koh-I Nor is not a hotel everyone can afford.
Indeed, the list of facilities speaks for itself: 63 guest rooms and suites, 35 apartments, 2 restaurants, a bar lounge, a panoramic terrace, 2 swimming pools and an 800m² spa. The notion of simplicity is rather relative!
Food and drink
The Brasserie de Luxe is the first of the hotel's two restaurants. Designed in a refined style combining wood, noble materials and a few touches of warm colours, this bright space with large windows is the playground of Chef Yoann Conte, whose restaurant in Annecy was awarded two Michel stars. The international restaurant is only open in the evening, and serves a single 5-course menu with table service, as well as a breakfast buffet based on products created by the kitchen team and local products. Guests can savour the cocktails prepared by the Head Barman in the intimate and peaceful atmosphere of the Bar Lounge.
The 800m² Koh-I Nor Spa is an area of well-being designed as a "haven of peace dedicated to comfort". Here guests will find two swimming pools, a gym, a sauna, a hamman, a Jacuzzi, experience showers, a salt wall, an ice fountain, a relaxation lounge and a sun lounge, all bathed in natural light.
The Hotel Koh-I Nor is brand new.
