Next to the Melia Varadero and Sol Club Palmeras hotels, the Melia Las Amercas is 7 miles from Varadero town centre (15 minutes) and about 24 miles from the international airport (35 minutes) by car. Built on 50 000 m2 of land in 1994 next to an 18 hole golf course which is the largest in Cuba and the only one on the peninsula, it faces the Florida Detroit sea on the north coast of the Hicacos peninsula. Outside of the hotel, the surrounding areas are rather spoilt.
The main hotel building, on 4 floors, has 250 rooms of two different types: rooms and suites. All with a balcony or a terrace with a view of the sea, the pool, or the garden. They have adjustable air conditioning, satellite television, safe (deposit), telephone for international calls, fridge, bath, hair dryer, 220 volt sockets. The suites have a small lounge. Nearer the beach there is a zone just for the 90 bungalows, available since October 1996. The atmosphere is quieter and the facilites identical to those in the rooms and suites but maybe with rather a better level. They are perfect for 3 adults or 2 adults and 2 children.
Anyone who enters this hotel will be astonished by the class of its large marbled hall. Then you can enjoy the calm and luxurious greenery in the lobby. Outside, the pools are surrounded by gardens full of flowers, making it both an intimate and friendly place.
Food and drink
Decorated in mosaics, the main restaurant has a distinct style. It serves international food in the form of numerous and very varied buffets. It is open for every meal, except when the hotel doesn't have many guests. People who like grilled meat can go to the à la carte restaurant for dinner. A small pizzeria is open midday and evening and another international restaurant all day. Five bars, one with a piano. One is open 24 hours a day. Two snack bars (mainly Spanish specialties). You can have lunch or dinner in the neighbouring hotels (Melia Varadero and Sol Club Palmeras).
The beach is particularly pretty: fine sand, hamacs, deckchairs, parasols, and beach towels (deposit) and ....bookshop available. Its one of the best beaches on the peninsula and its waters are amazing. You can see on the hills a few hundred meters away Irénée Duport de Nemours' old house, which has become the famous Las America restaurant, just next to the golf course.
Many services, a lot of entertainment, activities and equipent are available at an extra cost. We advise you to get information on what is included and what is not (not the same terms as the neighbouring all inclusive hotels). Holidays are combined with the Melia Cohiba hotel in Havana. Clients are very international
The Bahia Principe is a pleasant hotel where families and couples can make the most of the sea and the many activities available. It is well located on the peninsula, not too near nor too far from Varadero centre and the other hotels.
