''Poor parent'' of the Bauer group, the Bauer hotel does not give you the feeling of a high standard hotel. However, since it shares the living-room and the restaurant with its neighbour Palazzo, and since it gives the opportunity to go by private ship to the Palladio spa, you can choose to stay at the Bauer (cheaper) without giving up the princely rest of your visit.

    Location 9.94 /10

On San Moise campo, 330 feet from Saint Mark's square and one street away from the Great Canal.
    Vaporetto stop: Vallaresso.
The airport is located 7.5 miles away. Take the boat (Aliguna) from Saint Mark's square. Ride duration: about 35 minutes.

    Accommodation 7.95 /10

The Bauer offers 109 rooms. They are spacious (between 270 and 325 feet²) but their uneven placement can create the feeling of a standard hotel rather than a luxury destination. If possible, stay away from the rooms overlooking the narrow indoor yard. The few green plants are not enough to make this place that communicates with the outside look happier. Another view to avoid: the one of the street, a typical Venetian alley, with walls too close to the others and without any opening. The only one that remains to ask about is the direction of the rooms, for an additional fee: the one of San Moise campo and the small adjoining canal. The sobriety of the materials and the fabric colours will also deceive those that are familiar with the Palazzo, Luna Baglioni or Gritti. However, the facilities are in accordance with those of a high-standard hotel (air-conditioning, mini-bar and TV). All the rooms have a bathtub and offer a selection of 1 ounce of Santa Maria degli Angeli care products (for sale also in the hotel shop).

    Overview 7.70 /10

Built in the 40s, the Bauer hotel is one of the rare buildings of Venice that does not offer traditional Venetian architecture. This thing is very deceiving if you are not aware of it before you get here. Otherwise, you will find this 7-level concrete block incongruously charming. Inside, the huge lobby with marble floors, decorated with retro elements (duplication of the old maps of the World) and international style items (wall clocks above the reception counter). Fortunatly, the adjoining lounges are different. You will feel the Palazzo atmosphere - elegant, Venetian, decorated by golden panelling, old tables, traditional furniture.

    Food and drink 8.45 /10

The guests of the Bauer can take their breakfast in the restaurant dining-room overlooking the Great Canal. The dining rooms has a sundeck - you will have a great breakfast here (from April to October, winter is too cold). Like most of the Venetian high-standard hotels, the buffet includes cheese, raw ham, yoghurt, fruits and fresh fruits juices, pastries and small breads. But the dishes offered for breakfast don't stop here: you can also ask for omelette, boiled eggs or toasts. The other meals are served in the same room, but a la carte. Pay attention to the prices, one entree or pasta dish costs about 20 &euros (16 pounds), a meat or fish dish around 35 &euros (28 pounds). But it is flawlessly served and very good.

    To know

The buildings of the Bauer and Palazzo are placed side by side. Even if these hotels have separate receptions, some of the facilities, like the main restaurant or the fitness room, are common for both. Another hotel belonging to the Bauer group: the Palladio, which offer the spa. It is located on Guidecca Island. You get here in a private ship offered by the hotel (free ride).
    Lodging advice:
None of the rooms of the Bauer hotel offers a view of the Great Canal. If you want a ''Venetian'' view, ask for a room overlooking San Moise campo: this way you will see the place that houses San Moise church, but also a secondary canal overlooked by a gangway.

A historic hotel (in the 18th century, the hotel went under a different name), a unique location (close to the Correr Museum on Saint Mark's square), pleasant service, a great welcome, a nice restaurant as well... Go to the Concordia, you will not be disappointed!

Great arrival in private boat (or taxi-boat) on the lagoon, or more modest, through one of the bridges spanning the della Madonna dell Orto canal. You can get here in a great train: quality ambiance and services. The only bad part: Saint Mark's plaza is quite far away.

A small simple hotel but also typical, a place you had better reserved for a weekend between November and March, because most of the rooms overlook other buildings' walls and the common areas do not have windows.

A hotel with very good services and, like most of its neighbours, with a sundeck overlooking the Great Canal. But the prices are more affordable here, because the establishment is a 4-star local norms hotel. For the accommodations, because the restaurant still has the prices practiced in the Venetian palaces. The quality also, even if the recipes are as old as the city of Doges.

This small hotel is very well located, a few steps away from Saint-Mark's square. It is also located on the verge of a canal. As for its charm, it is very busy during the day- but at night, it becomes peaceful again. Ideal place for a first visit in Venice.

The Boscolo Venezia is a quiet luxury hotel set in a very pleasant district of North Venice. Far from the other palaces of the city, slightly tucked away, this hotel has one of the most superb gardens in Venice. For those who can afford it, it is one of our favourite top-end hotels. It may be a bit far from the city centre, but we strongly recommend it if you have a few days to make the most of the city.

This luxury addess offers a privileged location in Giudecca Island, in an amazing historical ambiance (old religious boarding school). Tranquility and untouchable view of the Doge's palace, on the other side of Saint-Mark's basin. Be careful, however, the austere architecture will not please everybody.

The Saturnia International is both a traditional and designer hotel with a perfect location in Venice. The pure Venetian style and the 1930s furniture work together harmoniously each on their own. An authentic atmosphere and a very good restaurant don't do any harm either. As you'll have understood, we really liked this place!
