Do you like The Four Seasons? Remember the name of this hotel. Inside this building, Vivaldi taught music classes in the 18th century. One of the great Venetian centuries, the one that created the myth of the festive and romantic city.

    Location 6.83 /10

Located on Riva degli Schiavoni, a quay bordering Saint Mark's basin. Saint Mark's plaza is 660 feet away.
    Vaporetto stop: San-Zaccaria.
The airport is 8 miles away. Take the boat (Aliguna) in front of the hotel. Expect a 35-minute trip.

    Accommodation 7.45 /10

Almost every room is different than the others (a total of 67 rooms) by its furniture or decor. The bedspread might also be baroque style, or neo-gothic. The walls are tapestried in red or light colours. Anyway, the space planning is comfortable (not very thin mattresses) and the surface is kind of small. 107 feet² for standard rooms, a little more for the suites and 3 quadruple rooms. The rooms overlook two attractive directions: Saint-Mark's basin (''lagoon view'') and the inside yard (''garden view''). You can get them for an additional fee. Otherwise, the rooms overlook a narrow street or a small canal. The facilities include the TV (flat screen in the suites), telephone, a safe (with free usage), air-conditioning, a minibar. The bathrooms has a bathtub or shower, hair-dryer and British Gilchrist and Soame welcome products.

    Overview 7.70 /10

The Metropole was launched at the end of the 19th century. A historical hotel, it offers 67 rooms and suites. The last renovation was in 2006 (improvements in the lagoon suites). Upon arrival by vaporetto, you will immediately notice the hotel - its Italian facade doesn't make you guess what's inside. Neo-gothic Venetian decor, painted paper with Oriental motifs, varnished wooden furniture, taut with red velvet, old paintings and vases, chandeliers made of Murano glass. This is a decoration both historical and authentic, but overloaded. One may not like it. In return, everybody will enjoy the very pleasant indoor yard - floral, shaded and surrounded by traditional houses. When the weather is nice, you can take your breakfast or have a drink there. A hotelier sojourn like in the old times; no fitness space or a fashionable relaxation area.

    Food and drink 9.45 /10

Think about booking your lunch and dinner, even if you are located in the hotel, because the restaurant, blessed with a Michelin guide star, attracts a good number of people. Of course, the cuisine is famous, and the prices are really afordable, considering that in Venice the lowest meal costs about 30&euros; (24 pounds). At the Met (this is the name of the restaurant), you can also eat a la carte for this price, or even better, you can treat yourself to an entire menu for 95&euros; (75 pounds). Mediterranean tastes, different combinations of unexpected tastes, but very pleasant. The dining-room is decorated in notes of red, with two stone columns: this is what is left of the church that was built there in the time of Vivaldi.
In the morning, the breakfast buffet is served in a room by the sundeck (you can though eat outside if the weather is nice). Only cold dishes offered (cold cuts, cheese, viennoiseries). You can have eggs and bacon, omelettes and... caviar for a fee. The coffee is served at the table.

    To know

There are very few beautiful Venetian hotels that don't have a unique historical curiosity. At the Metropole, the restaurant is located in an old church (2 columns remaining). It used to be an orphanage for young girls, a luxuriously built establishment if you judge from the marble stairway dating back to the 15th century.
Climb the stairs: you walk the same steps as Antonio Vivaldi, the music maestro, that used to come to the orphanage to teach music classes, in the first half of 18th century.
    Lodging advice
The most beautiful rooms are also the most expensive, it's up to you to take one of the 2 suites with an altana (private sundeck). There is a view of the lagoon and the surroundings, but you will pay more than 1,000 euros per night for it (790 pounds). Another suite is offered for special occasions (engagements, wedding parties): the Damas suite has a bathtub in the room and a shower with a hamam. 1,500 euros per night for two...

      • Package deals in avril 2013 Posted on 2014-02-01 Entre amis - 3 à 5 nuitées (Chambre sans vue)

Great arrival in private boat (or taxi-boat) on the lagoon, or more modest, through one of the bridges spanning the della Madonna dell Orto canal. You can get here in a great train: quality ambiance and services. The only bad part: Saint Mark's plaza is quite far away.

''Poor parent'' of the Bauer group, the Bauer hotel does not give you the feeling of a high standard hotel. However, since it shares the living-room and the restaurant with its neighbour Palazzo, and since it gives the opportunity to go by private ship to the Palladio spa, you can choose to stay at the Bauer (cheaper) without giving up the princely rest of your visit.

A hotel with very good services and, like most of its neighbours, with a sundeck overlooking the Great Canal. But the prices are more affordable here, because the establishment is a 4-star local norms hotel. For the accommodations, because the restaurant still has the prices practiced in the Venetian palaces. The quality also, even if the recipes are as old as the city of Doges.

The Boscolo Venezia is a quiet luxury hotel set in a very pleasant district of North Venice. Far from the other palaces of the city, slightly tucked away, this hotel has one of the most superb gardens in Venice. For those who can afford it, it is one of our favourite top-end hotels. It may be a bit far from the city centre, but we strongly recommend it if you have a few days to make the most of the city.
