The Saturnia International is both a traditional and designer hotel with a perfect location in Venice. The pure Venetian style and the 1930s furniture work together harmoniously each on their own. An authentic atmosphere and a very good restaurant don't do any harm either. As you'll have understood, we really liked this place!

    Location 8.0 /10

On Calle largua XXII Marzo, the Saturnia is located in a fashionable street in Venice, with luxury boutiques and numerous palaces in the surrounding area. Great location: Saint Mark's Square is 250m away. The Giglio water bus (vaparetto) stop is just over 200m away. To take the Alilaguna water shuttle to the airport, you have to go to the San Marco Giardinetti stop around 400m away.

    Accommodation 8.30 /10

The 89 guest rooms of the Saturnia are all different. In terms of atmosphere, there are two styles. There are still a few guest rooms decorated in the classic Venetian style, although the majority of them have been refurbished and now feature the Art Déco style so loved by the Serandrei family. Each piece of furniture is unique and distinctive, but it works well.

Other than that, there are three room categories: Classic, Superior and Junior Suites. As can be expected, the difference between the categories is the size, the furniture and the amenities (which only differ slightly). Some of the Classic guest rooms, however, are among the nicest in the hotel! The amenities are flawless (LCD television, radio, minibar, free Wi-Fi or cable Internet access, a safe, air-conditioning, etc.).

The hotel bathrooms are particularly lovely, both in terms of amenities and decoration. One of the hotel's best features. Once again there is no set rule: some of the Classic rooms have a beautiful bathtub while some of the Superior rooms have to make do with a large shower. And sometimes they are fitted with both. The same goes for the toilets, which are either separate or not.

    Overview 8.50 /10

Composed of three old 15th century buildings, the Saturnia is a maze. Affording a traditional style, both the atmosphere and the architecture in the reception area are superb. Opened in 1908, the hotel is a beautiful patina colour that immediately catches the eye. The welcome here is attentive and professional. The main building has preserved all the features of a Golden Age palace: wide landings, period furniture, stained-glass windows, solid wood ceilings... These different spaces are put to good use today in the form of magnificent lounges with a very classic style. This is particularly true of the piano nobile in the main building. However, if you wander around the 4 floors of this huge establishment (with a lift), you'll notice that the ceiling heights vary and that the ambiance changes. Some parts of the hotel have been added to the main building over time, which has also affected the guest rooms.

On the roof, the panoramic terrace overlooks the rooftops of Venice, including the Fenice Theatre and the Santa Maria della Salute dome.

    Food and drink

At the Saturnia, breakfast is eaten in a beautiful, wood-clad dining room next to reception. Dim but very pleasant. The breakfast buffet is very generous, and includes both sweet/savoury and hot/cold options.

The hotel restaurant occupies part of the ground floor on the street level. The Caravella is a historical and renowned restaurant in Venice. Like the breakfast room, the dining room is slightly dark but the decor and the atmosphere are clearly present: wood-covered walls and a marine theme. Its traditional Venetian cuisine is famous. Guests at the hotel enjoy a 10% discount if they choose to dine here. A welcome reduction as it's not cheap!

    To know

The Saturnia International is owned by the Serandrei family, who also run the Ca' Pisani Hotel.

The hotel is entirely non smoking.

This small hotel is very well located, a few steps away from Saint-Mark's square. It is also located on the verge of a canal. As for its charm, it is very busy during the day- but at night, it becomes peaceful again. Ideal place for a first visit in Venice.

A hotel with very good services and, like most of its neighbours, with a sundeck overlooking the Great Canal. But the prices are more affordable here, because the establishment is a 4-star local norms hotel. For the accommodations, because the restaurant still has the prices practiced in the Venetian palaces. The quality also, even if the recipes are as old as the city of Doges.

A gorgeous hotel, a palace... With two entrances, Venice style. Great arrival in private boat (or taxi-boat) on the lagoon, or more modest, through one of the bridges spanning the della Madonna dell Orto canal. You can get here in a great train: quality ambiance and services. The only bad part: Saint Mark's plaza is quite far away.

The Boscolo Venezia is a quiet luxury hotel set in a very pleasant district of North Venice. Far from the other palaces of the city, slightly tucked away, this hotel has one of the most superb gardens in Venice. For those who can afford it, it is one of our favourite top-end hotels. It may be a bit far from the city centre, but we strongly recommend it if you have a few days to make the most of the city.
