The first European Six Senses resort is set to open its doors in spring 2015 in Portugal's Douro Valley. The UNESCO World Heritage Site will soon be home to a new establishment featuring typical 19th-century architecture and contemporary interiors - the group's trademark.

    The hotel site will cover 20 acres, and will comprise 71 spacious guest rooms and a few family suites. Villas with either two or three bedrooms will also be available to rent.

    The hotel's main asset is the 2,200m Six Senses Spa with its 10 treatment rooms. A number of therapies will be available, including treatments based on wine and grapes from the region. The complex will include two heated swimming pools, one indoor and one outdoor, Jacuzzis - great for unwinding - a gym, a tennis court, a bar and a library.

    The Doura hotel will also have a restaurant open all day. It will serve Portuguese specialities with a twist, made from fresh products that are common to the region and fruit and vegetables from its own gardens.

    The Douro Valley is bathed in sunshine and enjoys a mild climate all year round. These sublime and peaceful surroundings are just 20.5 miles from Vila Real Airport and 88 miles from the Porto Airport. The hotel will also offers guests the option of arriving via helicopter at the nearby Quinta Romeneira heliport.
