This is one of the most appealing hotels in the historical centre of Vilnius. It has few bedrooms but offers high-quality facilities and service, a pleasant layout (with a covered winter garden) at any time of the year, relaxation facilities and a very good à la carte restaurant... You are advised to visit the Stikliai before everyone else does - you won't go wrong and it won't cost the earth: part of the Relais et Châteaux chain of hotels, it has a local feel and is full of charm.

    Location 10.0 /10

On Gaono 7, a small street in the historical centre. The main street of Vilnius Old Town is a 2-minute walk away.
The airport is about 4.50 mi away. Transfer time is around 15-20 minutes.

    Accommodation 8.95 /10

This modest-sized (and all the better for it) hotel has 44 bedrooms and suites. All standard rooms have a reasonable floor area of 215 sq ft and suites 323 sq ft. The rooms are carefully designed. Not all the rooms have a four-poster bed (deluxe rooms and junior suites only) or an alcove closed off by curtains (suites only), but they do have traditional-style furniture, striped or floral brightly-coloured fabrics, brass wall lights and a pleasant view from the windows. The rooms either overlook the street (the old facades opposite) or the courtyard (above the winter garden or the glass roof of the restaurant). The bathrooms are also stylish with gilted taps, a fresco (in the superior categories), a bathtub, a hair-dryer, bathrobes and 30ml Relais et Châteaux hospitality products in all rooms (bedrooms and suites): the level of luxury varies depending on the category of room as the nightly rate also differs... Other facilities include a television, a telephone, a mini-bar, air-conditioning and a safe deposit box.

    Overview 8.70 /10

Opened in 1996 and extended in 2002, the Stikliai is housed in an old 4-storey building in Vilnius Old Town. The hotel has fresco painting above the entrance (depicting glassblowers, whose workshops used to be located on Stikliu street, to the rear of the hotel) and Belle Epoque-style decor inside. It is a little busy, yet still harmonious (gilted wood-framed mirrors, armchairs, paintings, consoles and Venetian-style draperies). The reception leads through to the winter garden: a veranda with garden furniture, decorated with green plants and overlooking and outdoor courtyard, which is itself laid out as a terrace bar in the summer. That's not all. The Stikliai also provides relaxation facilities, which are all the more enjoyable as they are rather rare in hotels in the historical centre. There is: a covered 26.25x9.85 ft swimming pool with no external view but which is housed in a room decorated with a trompe-l'oeil fresco; a fitness room; a sauna (the latter incurring an additional charge of around £11).

    Food and drink 8.45 /10

There are several rooms providing several different atmospheres for the various meals. Tables are laid up in an arched room decorated in traditional (furniture) and Venetian (ruched fabric curtains) styles. This makes for very pleasant surroundings for dinner as the atmosphere created by the filtered lighting is particularly appealing at this time of day. Decked with greenery and well lit, as if floodlit (even when the sky is grey and in the middle of winter): this is atmosphere you get under the glass roof of the room, with a view of the adjacent courtyard and winter garden. Particularly good for breakfast and lunch. There is also another, more rustic room (earthenware tiles on the walls and tables tiled in the same material) used as an additional breakfast area. This is served in the form of a hot and cold buffet and provides both variety and quality. More gourmet dishes are served as off 12pm. Dishes are served in small portions and combine inventive flavours, such as fried wild mushrooms in peanut butter, great classics which have become international (such as fillet of doe 'Rossini' with duck foie gras, and Lithuanian dishes with rustic flavours but very well cooked (mushroom soup and potato cakes with smoked salmon). It really is delicious, but a main course will set you back an average of £37.

    To know

In Lithuanian, "stikliai" are glassblowers. The hotel takes its name from the workshops that were once established in this part of the town.
The Stikliai is a member of the Relais et Châteaux chain of hotels: a gauge of quality, justified by the provisions and service provided at rather reasonable prices. Enjoy!
    Accommodation advice
The prettiest bedrooms in the hotel are those with a four-poster bed: these fall into the deluxe or junior suite categories. As there are only around ten in total, book one in advance. The charming aspect of the four-poster is worth it.

A beautiful hotel to keep in mind for its bedrooms and location - in the heart of historic Vilnius. All of the old city is accessible on foot from the hotel. It is cosy, with decoration typical of the area, especially on ground level and underground, but make sure that you do choose a room according to your taste. Note that you will be charged extra to go to the gym: take it or leave it, depending on your budget and your holidaying habits.

A central location, a historical building, a fine setting in the Old Town of Vilnius... The Radisson SAS, along with several other hotels in the Lithuanian capital, offers all of the above. So why stay here instead of somewhere else? To swim - but of course - in the swimming pool (or lounge in the whirlpool bath) for no extra charge. To enjoy a generous breakfast after sleeping (preferably) in one of the superior rooms or suites, as the standard rooms and their bathrooms are not very spacious.

If you like books, non-standardised bedrooms, warm atmospheres, wooden flooring and wood panelling, the Shakespeare Hotel is the place for you. Located in Vilnius Old Town, surrounded by old buildings... The English-style interior decor is not very local, but it is typical: enthusiasts take note!

A central location, "boutique hotel" (but not contemporary) style decor, a fitness centre with free entry in the early morning, and different categories of rooms, the most spacious of which can accommodate families. The Ramada is a good choice if you wish to enjoy the quality of service offered by a hotel chain while staying in a unique setting.

Very well located, on the main road through the historic district of Vilnius; a historical building, most of the rooms overlook the old town, one of which is a new, round-shaped suite; a restaurant that absolutely must be tried, particularly in the summer, when the tables are put outside. The Europa Royale is a good choice of accommodation, even if the soundproofing is not up to the standards of a contemporary building.

This is an address for those with an "average budget" (as this is no youth hostel), very well situated for discovering the historical centre of Vilnius on foot, adapted for families or groups of friends, and meticulously well kept; but with simple comforts and ancient corridors resonating at the slightest noise. Recommended for a night or two, and to those who have nothing against old convents.
