    Overview 8.20 /10

Traders is the urban 'business' branch of the prestigious Shangri La hotel group based in Singapore. This 334-room establishment opened its doors in 1996 in a 22-storey skyscraper served by three spacious lifts. The panoramic views of Yangon from the top are simply breathtaking. Renovation work is currently being carried out to bring the number of guest rooms to 485 in 2014. The long lobby decorated in shiny marble is both vast and classy, and evens includes a piano bar. A staircase leads to the first floors - you almost feel as though you are in a shopping centre! The facilities at the Traders Hotel Yangon include, in particular, a large swimming pool on the 5th floor, a spacious gym with state-of-the-art equipment and flat-screen televisions (open from 6:00am to 11:00pm), a television room and a spa. Note that although the massages are of course charged extra, the Jacuzzi, sauna and steam room all are free - a rarity in Burma spas. Guests lucky enough to be part of the Traders Club have the luxury of checking in at the club lounge on the 21st floor, where they can enjoy their breakfast while admiring the panoramic view of Yangon (you can see the Shwedagon Pagoda in particular). A computer is provided in this lounge to allow guests to surf the Internet for free, as well as a traditional chess board and a bookcase.

    Food and drink 8.70 /10

The Traders Café in the lobby serves a delicious buffet from 6:30am to 10:00pm, with the added possibility of ordering dishes from the à la carte menu. Here you can sample local and international cuisine in the 180-seat dining room. The sushi section is excellent! Cantonese rice, Caesar salad, wok dishes, prawns, pasta, an Italian section, cheese, an Indian section, ice creams, pancakes, pastel de nata (the famous Portuguese pastries), grills, Japanese noodles, tropical fruits... you'll be spoilt for choice! There is even a halal section. The atmosphere is livened up by the show cooking and the live kitchen demonstrations. The hotel also has its own restaurant, the Summer Palace: an à la carte Chinese restaurant that can seat up to 200 people, open from 11:30am to 2:00pm and from 6:00pm to 10:00pm. The lounge café in the lobby serves homemade pastries, bread and breakfast pastries. You can also choose to sip on a drink in the Gallery Bar from 1:00pm to 1:00am, where you can smoke, play a game of billiards or watch TV.

    Spa 8.45 /10

Open from 6:00am to 11:00pm, the health club spa on the 5th floor is fitted with a steam room, sauna and Jacuzzi, all of which are free to use (a rarity in hotels in Burma), five massage rooms (no double cabins) where cosmetic products from the Singapore brand Revlon are used (foot massages are also available), all bathed in a relaxing musical ambiance. The changing rooms are separate. Manicures, pedicures (with a foot bath) and facial treatments are available in the pretty beauty centre, decorated with pebbles and flower petals. The techno dance music is a little excessive however given that the spa is just next door! The large swimming pool, 1m 60cm deep, is surrounded by a sun lounge with showers, wicker deckchairs, parasols and towels provided free of charge. There is also a 50cm deep pool for children and a small bar underneath a gazebo. The gym is spacious with state--of-the-art equipment and modern machines including treadmills.
