Chandigarh is an exception in India and is the small Brasilia at the moment, with its modern architecture of the 1950s. The city is divided into identical sectors crossed by big avenues. Northwards is Sector 1 where are the Capitol and all offical administrative buildings. Between 10:00 AM and noon, climb to the Secretariat's terrace, seat of the two States' government offices for a wonderful view with, on one side the new city and, southwards the first foothills of the Himalaya. Stroll along the administrative area and the vast 544 acre artificial lake, the Sukhna Lake, close to the High Court of Justice. In Sector 10, discover 5,000 years of the history of Northern India in the Museum of Evolution of Life. Entice your senses in the vast Rose Garden in Sector 16, with more than a thousand varieties (ideal from December to February). For your shopping, go to shopping centres in Sector 17, opposite the railway station.
