In Srinagar, sail on Dal Lake and Jhelum River. The many floating houses, once inhabited by the British, are anchored all across the lakes. These "houseboats", of different categories, are available for rent. The Old Town, made of many narrow streets and mosques, is fairly lively below Hari Parbhat fort. Modern neighbourhoods are set up a little further on the Jhelum River's banks. Sriganar is also known for its famous Mogul gardens (Bagh), Shalimar Bagh, Chashmashahi Bagh and Nishat Bagh, located on the far eastern side of Dal Lake. Before reaching Shankaracharya temple dedicated to Shiva, perched on top of Srinagar's highest hill, a succession of government official residences are lined up along Gupkar Rd. West of the town, Sharika Devi temple is surrounded by an old fort. Admire Chatti Padshahi Gurudwara, a sacred place for pilgrimage built by the 6th Sikh gourou, and Rozabal sanctuary, at the entrance of the Old Town which, according to the legend, is said to contain the remains of Christ.
