Tabriz, capital of East Azerbaijan Province, is located in a valley at the foot of the Sahand Mountains. Its blue mosque ranks amongst the masterpieces of enamel decoration in Iran. Of this 15th century monument, only the façade, a few pillars, sections of vaults and the remainders of a dome are left. The city is equally worth seeing for its towers and the citadel wall that dates back to the Mongolian occupation of the 15th century. Do not forget to see the bazaar.
