The Archaeological Museum, partly built on a former amphitheatre, attests to the importance of Arezzo during the Etruscan and Roman period. This being said, it was in the first half of the 14th century that the city really started to become a lively cultural centre. When in Arezzo, you must not miss a visit to its cathedral and the ?Pieve de Santa Maria'. In the church of San Domenico you will find the 'Crucifixion', an early work by Cimabue, whereas the church of San Francesco holds one of the masterpieces of the Renaissance: a work made up of three frescos representing ?The Legend of the True Cross' by Piero della Francesca.
