Discover Monuments of Pisa

Alongside its famous leaning tower, there are several other notable monuments in Pisa. The tower itself is the freestanding bell tower of the Duomo (Dome) of Pisa, which sits next to the Campo dei Miracoli (Miracoli Cathedral). Classic examples of Pisan-Romanesque architecture, the grey marble and white stone exterior of the dome, the tower, the baptistery and the cathedral itself are extremely striking and are all contained within the walls of the Piazza del Miracoli (Cathedral Square). The leaning tower, which gained its nickname after the foundations started to shift on one side, stands at 56m tall and was built over two centuries. There is a 294 step-climb up the spiral stairs to the top of the tower, where there are rewarding views of the cemetery that lies below and the rest of Pisa beyond.
