The home town of Gabriele d'Annunzio, Pescara has a rather recent history. It was recognised as a province only as recently as 1927 but in just a few decades it has become the main city of the Abruzzo region. The city is separated from the Adriatic by a huge beach, which is not only great for sunbathing but also a good place for sailboat trips during the summer months. Boat trips are offered by various companies based in the tourist port of ?Marina di Pescara'. In the evening, having dined in one of the chic restaurants in the city centre, you can even go and dance in a nightclub on the beach, should you so wish.
