Negril is known for its 7.5 miles long sandy beach. Apart from the beach and the bars which provide a particularly hectic atmosphere at night, the city is quite calm. Water sports, relaxation, cocktails at sunset ... This is all that Negril offers, without forgetting the Wys Falls and excursions on the south coast or inland. You will find family hotels such as the Beaches Negril or Negril Beach Gardens; friendly hotels such as the Country Country or the Sea Splash Resort. Others are more dedicated to couples, naked or dressed, such as the Hedonism II or the Swept Away hotels with entertainment and an unmatched festive atmosphere. Located in a beautiful tropical park, the Sunset At the Palms will seduce you if you are a lover of nature. If your budget allows it, you can stay in a more refined style at the Rock House or The Caves, hotels built on rocks near the sea (prohibited for children). Atypical and splendid !

Negril: what to do?

Scuba diving, sports, riding, golf, fishing, cruises and boat rides will delight you ... Nightlife in Negril is particularly lively and we recommend the famous Margaritaville, which reserves Friday evenings for the barbecue Sunset BeachParty .

The Negril lighthouse, Negril's single concession to the architecture of the last century, Bobby Cay a small islet with deserted white sand beaches which were chosen as a setting for the film, "Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea", based on the novel by Jules Verne.

Reminders

Jamaicans are very nice despite their reputation of being aggressive. Do not worry, they will be the first to give you directions... And you'll need it because the signs are very misleading !!! (The roads are not as dangerous as it is claimed, these are roads in the countryside.) Get a detailed map of Jamaica upon arrival at the hotel (some have maps) or from your tour operator or at the reception. And if possible, take a guide : in this way you will be sure to visit the island in peace.

To avoid

Don't think that by going to Jamaica, you can buy and smoke cannabis in peace. You would be wrong!! The country is very strict about that and it is forbidden to smoke or possess cannabis. The police won't forgive it and especially to tourists ! Policemen will make you spend several hours or even days in prison! So, beware ! ... Even if it is sold freely at the Bob Marley Museum ! Avoid parking just anywhere, pay close attention to signs. If you have parked in a wrong place, sheriffs will give you a fine and put a shoe on your t?re until you pay. You can not negotiate ... They are intransigent !

Negril: what to eat?

Exotic fruits such as pineapple, banana, papaya, coconut ... but also vegetables such as ackee, the national vegetable, fruit of the akesia; breadfruit, the fruit of the breadfruit; spices ... The specialities will satisfy you, like jerk pork or chicken, often served with fries. Some other national gourmet dishes : the pepperpot (an arawak dish, a meat stew cooked with collaloo, a local species of spinach sprinkled with pepper and grated coconut), escovitched fish (fresh fish cooked in sauce with onions, vinegar, red pepper ....), gizzadas (small coconut pies scented with ginger) ... It would be a shame not to try the famous coffee of the Blue Mountains, known as the best coffee in the world !

Negril: what to buy?

A country of Rastas and the mythical place of reggae, marked by music and the memory of the unforgettable Bob Marley, Jamaica will give you what you would expect. You will find the atmosphere and the warmth you dream of, from colourful homes to music, and the famous "yo man, no problem" ... Apart from your memories, you can bring home CDs, T-shirts with Bob Marley printed on them, and rasta hats ... Do not forget the coffee of the Blue Mountains.
