The excavation of the city of Tyre revealed the remnants of a large Roman city organised on a 575 ft long paved marble road, bordered by beautiful columns (3 ft in diameter and 26 ft high) which leads to the sea. Observe the ruins of this city with its arenas, gymnasiums and thermaes, which are absolutely awe-inspiring. You can even still see the submerged columns under the water in the port! In El Bass, a short distance from Tyre, the hippodrome and necropolis are two other interesting and well-preserved sites which take you back in time to the Roman era. The hippodrome can hold about 30,000 spectators.
