Ghadames will fascinate you. It is the ancient caravan capital classified as a World Heritage site by Unesco and dubbed the "pearl of the desert". Founded 2,000 years ago, it is the most beautiful and fortified oasis of the desert, bordered by unending dunes. Surrounded by a white wall, the old city is a succession of small whitewashed earth houses surrounded by small salty lakes and gardens, all irrigated by an underground system of canals and aqueducts.
