Discover Sainte-Marie island Madagascar

Off the east coast and north of Toamasina, Sainte-Marie Island is an exquisite holiday resort. Wilder and less developed than its cousin Nosy Be, Sainte-Marie has maintained a slightly conservative and traditional aspect that is sometimes lacking in Nosy Be. The long fine sand beaches, lined with coconut trees, are simply fabulous and the lagoons abound in countless treasures to be discovered by the deep-sea divers. Several islets are ready to welcome you, such as the Mat Island in the south. Also, don't forget to visit the pirate cemetery with its skull tombs and moving epitaphs. Lovers of marine wildlife will be delighted from July to September by the movement of whales between the Malagasy coast and the west of the island. Many whales often stay in the area to mate, providing the opportunity for some unforgettable memories.

The very long Sainte Marie Island is a quieter version of Nosy Be. A former pirate haunt, the island is also known for its whale population.
