Discover The "Hira Gasy" Madagascar

Hira Gasy literally means "Madagascan song". This popular form of art blends drama, singing and dancing. Originally meant for the village audience, Hira Gasy shows are attracting increasing numbers of spectators. Generally, a band is made up of several members of the same family or village. They are known as the "Mpihira Gasy". These are very often poor villagers who are invited to sing in weddings, birthdays or national celebrations. The traditional costume is made up of a long lace gown for women and a red smock, black trousers and straw hat for men.
