Landscapes are very varied in Mali - you can drive for miles over flat land, then come across the cliffs of the Dogon region, or Mopti's green Venice and even the desert land of the Sahara and the mountains of Siby. They are all completely different depending on the season that you visit them, except the Sahara desert of course. In October, Mali is green all over because of the rain season. Two months later, the earth is dry and the greenery... gone!
Mali owes its rich culture to the diversity of people living in its lands. Mali is also known for its music through artists such as Salif Keita, Oumou Sangaré and Ali Farka Touré and for its literature through writers such as Amadou Hampaté Bâ and Issa Baba Traoré.
