Located on the other side of the bay of Fort-de-France, on the west coast of Martinique, Trois-Ilets has the largest number of hotels on the island. It is a particularly lively sea resort which has, as well as the close by beaches of Anse Mitan and Anse à l'Ane, every shop and restaurant you need and even a small and traditional Creole village which itself has a few shops. So you can go shopping there, as well as many other activities (including golf). There are regular sea shuttles to Fort-de-France; Trois-Ilets is the only place on the island where you will not need a car. This is where Josephine de Beauharnais was born, at Domaine de la Pagerie. Transformed into a museum, her house recounts the life of Napoleon I's wife.

Les Trois Ilets: what to do?

The Savane des Esclaves in Trois-Ilets is a re-created Neg Marrons slave village. The Neg Marrons were escaped slaves who would seek refuge in the mountains. The creator of the savannah, Gilbert Larose, is a descendant of the slaves. Many catamarans leave from the marina on dolphin-watching excursions. The town of Trois Ilets is the only place in Martinique where you will find a golf course. At night, head for Coconuts at Rivière Salée. A trendy open-air club, it is run by a man named Serge, a local who has a great sense of hospitality. It includes a discotheque with two dance floors, a lounge bar and a restaurant. Here you can enjoy some fabulous evenings with the best DJs in exclusive surroundings.

Le Bourg des Trois-Ilets is very pleasant. Its original feature is its small modern shopping village with warm colours that gives the village a special kind of atmosphere. Close-by heading south, Anse Noire and Anse Dufour are both worth visiting. They consist of a black sand beach and a white sand separated by a cliff. Also worth discovering is the Domaine de la Pagerie, the birthplace of Empress Josephine.

  • A wide range of hotels for all budgets
  • Many shops and restaurants as well as good entertainment on the beach of Anse Mitan.
  • Pointe-du-bout is quite superficial.
  • A lot of tourists in the high season.

Reminders

Think about going into the hills to see some magnificent views of Pointe du Bout and Anse à l'Ane (at Trois-Ilets ).
