Discover The Monuments of Chisinau Moldova

The Moldovan capital, Chisinau is home to numerous different monuments, the majority of them dedicated to the country's most famous residents. In the city centre, amongst the winding paths of the Stefan Cel Mare Park, you will find the 'Alley of Classics'. This particular path is lined on both sides with red granite busts of some of Moldova's best-known literary figures and political leaders. There are now a total of 28 busts, as several additions have been made to the original 12 after the fall of the Soviet Union, dedicated to writers and artists who were previously banned under the Communist regime. Amongst these is the Alexander Pushkin Monument, an exact replica of the bust in Moscow's Pushkin's Square - built in 1885 to commemorate the famous Russian author.

The Stefan Cel Mare Monument can also be found within the park's boundaries. Arguably the most famous in Chisinau, it was designed by Romanian sculptor Alexandru Pl?m?deal? and was originally constructed in Bucharest before being moved to its current location. The Triumph Arch is another of the capital's famous landmarks, located between the main government building on Stefan Cel Mare Boulevard and the Metropolitan Cathedral. It was built in 1841 and celebrates the Russian victory over the Turks.
