A memorable getaway that may just become an annual family destination is the state park island of Cayo Costa off of southwestern Florida. The pristine and uncrowded beaches are just one of the best parts about this place. Although you can take the ferry from the mainland for just a day trip, your teens may be more enthralled by the idea of spending a week camping there. Parents may love that there is no electricity (except for the main store) meaning everyone will have to be ?unplugged' for the whole time! You can opt to rent a cabin or reserve a tent camping site. The island is 1.6 km wide and around 11 km long. You can rent bikes to explore the island or embark on one of the many nature trails and try to spot some of the rare and endangered species that the island is home to. No matter what you do, the island is a great way to slow down and enjoy this sparkling, tropical area of Florida with your family.

Both you and your teens will be excited to learn about Mayan history while touring some of the ancient ruins that Belize is home to. For example, Altun Ha and the Caracol are recommended because they are kid friendly and the paths are not too difficult.
