Italy is famous for its wine and boasts plenty of wine regions from the north to the south, but in 2021 it will have, on top of that, an official CittÓ del Vino, or a City of Wine. This decision has actually been made by the CittÓ del Vino national association that aims at promoting and protecting Italian wines, and for 2021 it has been decided that the village Barolo would wear the title for 2021.

The birthplace of Barolo red wine, the village is in the Piedmontese province of Cuneo, and has just about 700 inhabitants.

Barolo's mayor Renata Bianco commented: "This year has been a very difficult year and we believe that this new campaign is a loud message of hope and new beginnings".

This initiative will be based around the rediscovery of traditional celebrations, as well as the passing of seasons and memories contributing to the history of Barolo wine. It will also promote wine culture and tourism, as well as sustainability and eco-awareness.

According to Floriano Zambon, the president of the CittÓ del Vino association, it is exactly what is happening in 2021, with the title going to the village of Barolo.
