National Geographic's 'Cool List' for 2016 is officially out and packed, as always, with recommendations on top spots for culture, cuisine, festivities and beaches. Making the top of the list this year is Iran, which hopes to boost tourism with a newly reopened UK embassy in Tehran and high government investment in the industry.
Also featuring on the list is tropical paradise Costa Rica, as well as Olympic city hot spot Rio de Janeiro and even a mention for England's very own Somerset. Further down, the publication also tipped Kazakhstan as a top destination for its UK visa waiver programme and development plans for its largest city.
"We've scoured the planet for this year's must-see destinations and come up with an eclectic list of top spots for culture, cuisine, festive celebrations, pristine coastline... and places to go," said editor Pat Riddell. "Some are obvious, some not so, but we think they should be top of anyone's travels plans in 2016 - and beyond."
