Alesha MacPhail was reported missing at 06 :25 after she had been staying at her grandma's house. Her grandma appealed for help in finding the missing six year old on social media platforms. However after a post-mortem examination, the case has become a murder inquiry. The police do not currently know the cause of her death.

Alesha's body was discovered in a woodland by a member of the public on the site of a former hotel on Arbeg Road on the Scottish island in the Firth of Clyde just two hours after at 8:30.

The police are currently trying to piece together a number of lines of inquiries and the events of what happened between 6 and 9 am, the approximate time of her disappearance.

An interview via the BBC reported that Det Supt Stuart Houston, from Police Scotland's major investigator team said, "Alesha's family is utterly devastated by what has happened and the news that was brought to them this evening...Like any other 6 year old, Alesha was looking forward to enjoying her holidays from primary school and had family coming to visit."
