    Crested Butte - Colorado, US

Crested Butte in Colorado, has a mountain bike culture that attracts riders from all over the world. The area's mountain bike history can be traced back to the sport's very begging in the 1970s. Crested Butte - with hundreds of miles of single-track - offers something for every single type of rider, from relaxed trails casually winding through mountain fields overgrown with wild flowers to perhaps the best shuttle rides in the states - a climb of 2,300 feet followed by a descent of about 6,000 feet.

  • SamoŽns and the Grand Massif - France

The gorgeous commune of SamoŽns can be found in the Haute-Savoie department in the Alpine region of south-eastern France. This alpine paradise is just a short drive from the much more popular, at least among international thrill seekers, Les Gets. While a popular destination for winter sports, SamoŽns is still relatively unknown when it comes to mountain biking, a shame when you consider that not only does it offer heavenly Alpine landscapes, but also one of the biggest networks of lift-accessed single-track in the Alps.

  • Rhyd Ddu, Snowdon - Wales, UK
Rhyd Ddu, Snowdon - Wales, UK

The Rhyd Ddu mountain circuit offers riders the opportunity to go to the top of Wales' highest peak, the 1,085 meter Mount Snowdon. The climb is followed by a descent down a rocky single-track that you will never forget. The steep climb up to the mountain's summit may prove a challenge to some, but trust us the sense of accomplishment you will feel when you reach the top coupled with truly breathtaking views, and that is not even mentioning the epic heart pounding descent, will make it all worth it.

  • Verbier - Switzerland
    Verbier - Switzerland

The village of Verbier, which is located in the canton of Valais in south-western Switzerland, is world famous for as an incredible ski resort, albeit a fairly pricy one. However, do not discard this Alpine paradise if its slopes are not covered in snow, for in the summer months Verbier offers some amazing mountain bike trails. Its sunny slopes boast a jaw-dropping variety of world-class single-tracks, which remain in pristine condition despite their increasing popularity among the mountain biking community.

  • Moab - Utah, US
    Moab - Utah, US

Calling Moab a mecca for mountain bike enthusiasts would not be doing it justice. The city which is located on the southern edge of Grand County, offers a red-rock landscape incomparable to anywhere else on the planet. And of course the best way to appreciate all this natural beauty is by climbing on your biking and speeding down some incredible trails. The area's most popular trails are Porcupine Rim, Slickrock, and the Whole Enchilada; however that does not mean that other trails on offer are not worth your time. And if you are tired of riding, though we do not see how that could happen, be sure to visit the Canyonlands National Parks or go climbing at Indian Creek.

For some people no pristine white-sand beach and warm crystal clear turquoise waters will ever compare to the rugged and imposing beauty of a mountain landscape. However there are those amongst us who are not satisfied with simply hiking down Alpine slopes, or having a picnic in a clearing covered in a carpet of wildflowers and tall grass with snow-topped mountains encircling you. Some people need that extra boost of adrenalin, that rush that makes them feel more alive than they ever would on a crowded beach of the French Riviera.

And what better way to awaken your senses then by undertaking a fast-paced, rocky decent down narrow dirt paths which twist and turn as forest and mountain landscapes speed past? So if speed or high altitudes never bothered you, if you have always felt more at home on a bike than on a surfboard or even on your two feet, and if the pull of the mountains will always outweigh the appeal of a beach then welcome to the world of mountain biking. From the French Alps to the rocky landscape of Utah we have gathered some of the best location in the world that any mountain bike enthusiast should have on their bucket list. So forget about the coast and make a beeline to one of these extraordinary destinations this summer.
