The UAE has rolled out a new visa scheme offering 5-year tourist visas for all nationalities. The government hopes that this will solidify the UAE's role as a tourist destination.

Under the current scheme, the UAE offered single-entry or multiple entry visas lasting either 30 or 90 days. The details of the new plan have yet to be revealed, but Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Prime Minister of the UAE and ruler of Dubai, plans to unveil the proposed changes in the coming 60 days.

Much like other countries in the region, the UAE is trying to diversify its economy away from oil and gas. Dubai saw a huge increase in tourism in 2019, particularly from visitors looking for luxury shopping. More than 12 million people visited the Emirate in 2019, a figure that Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum hopes will continue to grow.

The changes are in line with a five-year plan that's to be rolled out by Sheikh bin Rashid Al Maktoum in the coming months. The plan consists of 50 goals, including urban renewal projects for Dubai and changes to the UAE government's structure.
