  • Florence

Not just the cradle of the Renaissance, but birthplace of Gucci and Roberto Cavalli, the riverside city emanantes a fusion of the past and the present. Feast on world-class art along with delicacies alla fiorentina.

  • Amsterdam

Enjoy tulip-plucking season in all its glory in the Dutch capital. Cycle along tree-lined canals en route to the city's 'green lung', Vondelpark, or catch the city decked out in orange for King's Day, the national festival on April 27.

  • Tokyo

With celebrations of hanami (cherry blossom observation) still in full bloom, wandering through Tokyo's parks is something special. A firm favourite is Shinjuku Gyoen, where over 1,000 cherry trees of over a dozen varieties puff out their chests in pastel hues.

  • Paris

Inject a little je ne sais quoi into your Easter break in the city of love. From picture-perfect tourist spots and architectural gems to local spots like Rue Mouffetard, Paris and its floral coat look extra chic in spring.

  • Havana

A taste of the exotic at Easter should always be on the cards for a spring getaway. Step back in time amongst all the vintage Chevys, and experience the country's unique and robust culture in the temperate Cuban heat.

This year Easter Sunday falls on April 16. Whether you're after a burst of spring sunshine or looking to make the most of the school holidays, April's as good a time as any to embark upon an urban adventure abroad.

As sumptuous as your family's roast may be, there's nothing more appealing than diving headfirst into a new culture for its own Easter traditions. Given up chocolate for Lent? You might have to re-think the logistics of your egghunt in the Havana heat, but you certaintly won't have to in Bruges, where you can indulge to your heart's content on velvety Belgian truffles.

With flower festivals still in bloom, and new flights available to destinations like Graz, Austria's second city, there's myriad reasons to jet off for Easter. What a Good Friday indeed!
