The beaches of Paracas have the special feature of presenting one of the richest ecosystems on the whole coast. You will find them in the region of Ica, within a national reserve. They are a choice destination for scuba-divers and competitive fishing enthusiasts as well as for sailing.
As for surfing, go to Costa Verde and its line of beaches in the region of Lima. Let us mention in particular the beach of Herradura, famous for its 4 metre high waves and reserved to experienced surfers, which is also the case on Pico Alto beach: the waves can reach up to 10 metres... They are compared to Hawaii's. But it is at Punta Rocas beach that international surfing championships take place, with series of 5 metre waves. If you want to swim, go to Cerro Azul, which is also good for beginner surfers. You can reach it by motorway. But beware, beach does not necessarily mean hot weather. The average temperature hardly reaches 20°C, it is best to swim in the summer when the temperatures get warm enough.
Finally, make a note of the beaches of Arequipa, for swimming and saltwater fishing, which benefit from a dry and sunny, hence warmer climate. The season starts in October and ends in April. Let us mention the beaches of Brava de Loma (in particular to fishing enthusiasts) or even Yauca's, Chala's and Camana's.
