Landscapes

A contrasted and yet unique country, Saint-Martin displays a mosaic of incredibly beautiful landscapes. Its superb beaches (34 exactly) are among the most beautiful in the Caribbean. They are ideal for relaxation, diving and water sports. The coastline is just as charming as the other parts of the island. If you go to Saint-Martin, you will inevitably come back with your head full of wonderful memories. You will not only remember the coconut tree-lined white sandy beaches and superb turquoise-blue sea, but the island, with its sometimes dry climate, that enjoys a very lush vegetation, quite different from that found on the neighbouring islands. You will be enthralled by the sight of cacti, bougainvillea, hibiscus, Euphorbiaceae, Delonix regia, and poinsettias... for some years now, the island has focused its energies on eco-tourism, a different, more authentic form of holiday. All in all, there are 17 excursion routes that you can follow; these have been listed by local guides and would be a shame to miss if you want to discover the many historical and cultural sites on horseback or by bike. You will also get to meet the locals and live in the midst of unbelievable landscapes.

Coasts

Both in Saint Martin and Sint Marteen, the beaches are glorious. There are thirty-seven of them. An enthusiasm to be tempered, if you take into account the ever more numerous hotel complexes. Luxury hotels reign supreme along the coastline. Most of them are located between Nettlé Bay, near Marigot, and Simpson Bay, near the airport.

The fauna and flora

The island of Saint Martin was never attached to the American continent, so ground wildlife isn't particularly varied. However, the ornithological and aquatic wildlife is abundant.

Traditions

A mix of varied cultures and customs, Saint-Martin never slows down as far as entertainment and leisure are concerned. Saint-Martin is indeed a lively island, whatever the period of the year. You come here to have fun, dance, and meet people! Tropical music is an ever-present feature of the island: mambo, cha cha cha, salsa, calypso, biguine, go kwa, zouk, kompa, steel pan, dub, merengue, reggae, etc. It's everywhere; on the beaches, in the bars, in the restaurants, in the cars... You can't escape it. Any excuse to have a good time: among the main events, the carnival is the best example. It is a true institution that is held every year in January and February, followed by many other celebrations, such as Easter festivities when families gather in a friendly atmosphere, or the Saint-Louis' village festivities, where sporting, traditional and cultural events are organised. It is a place to come to with your family, as family plays a crucial role in the life of Saint-Martin... At dusk, night-time activities take over the island. Beach bars, casinos and nightclubs are the venue for locals and tourists who want to relax and have fun in a trendy atmosphere till the early hours of dawn. As we mentioned, the island dubbed the "Friendly Island" never sleeps...
