Burgos is a large city in the north of Castile. Located on a plateau 900 metres above sea level, it is a major stop on the Way of St. James pilgrimage route. Its rich cultural heritage is represented by the Cathedral of Saint Mary, one of the largest in Spain, whose spires can be seen from several miles away. Finally, Burgos is the birthplace of El Cid, a hero of the Reconquest of Spain, who is today buried inside the cathedral.
