As for art and culture, Madrid is a city of infinite contrasts. It boasts a vast selection of museums, monuments and all sorts of sights of interest, in addition to various cultural and artistic attractions.
The variety of landscapes, such as the central mountain range and the Tagus valley, provide the Community of Madrid with a series of climatic contrasts and a varied morphology, which has led to a rich diversity of animal and plant species.
Despite being the area with the most monuments per square meter, the entire central region of the peninsula also boasts a wide range of tourist sites, from castles to urban monuments.
The Madrid landscape is divided into two parts: the Sierra, to the North, includes the sierras of Guadarrama and Somosierra. In the centre and to the south there is a valley composed of desert, hills, Vegas, etc.
