In the southwest of the island, not far from Playa de las Américas, the region of Costa Adeje is home to the majority of the luxury hotels, with 13 5* hotels, generally the newest. Just over half a mile from the centre of Costa Adeje, you will find the 'Urbanizacion Playas del Duque', a tourist area with a large shopping centre, bars and restaurants.

Make sure you wear sandals or flip-flops, not because of sea urchins, rocks or coral, but because of the black volcanic sand that quickly gets hot in the sun!
Those who love interesting and cultural sites should avoid Costa Adeje, as it is a built-up, man-made seaside resort that lacks charm and authenticity. The north coast is better for trips to quieter, green areas.
Of course there are Canarian specialities, but also international cuisine, especially in the hotels.
As the Canary Islands are a tax free zone, you can buy many tax-free products, particularly from the number of huge shopping centres in the 'Urbanizacion Playas del Duque'.
