Costa Calma

By Amy Adejokun Amy Adejokun Section editor

Our Editorial team's advice

The nicest and most impressive beaches in Fuerteventura can be found on the Jandia Peninsula in the far south of the island. With its long sandy beaches separated by cliffs, Costa Calma is today seeing more and more modern constructions spring up.

To see

The large fine sandy beach of Playa Jandia, which is 15 miles long. This famous beach attracts kitesurfers and windsurfers from around the world thanks to its ideal conditions and regular winds. The sight of hundreds of sails of all colours swirling above the waves is truly magical! This is also the spot where the World Championships are held.

To do

Kitesurfing if you feel like it! In July and August, the beach of Jandia, which stretches for almost 16 miles from Morro Jable to Costa Calma, hosts the World Championships.

pros

  • +  The beautiful, never ending beaches!
  • +  It is the ideal spot for those who love kitesurfing.

cons

  • -  The airport is far away.
  • -  The hotels are of average quality.

To think about

Shopaholics can max out their credit cards at the La Barca shopping centre.

To avoid

One zone is reserved for kitesurfing and another for windsurfing, Make sure you avoid swimming in the middle of all the boards! Avoid the hotel buffets, which are really not that great, and instead try one of the fish restaurants on the seafront promenade.

To try

Fish at one of the many seafood restaurants on the seafront promenade.

To bring back

A kiteboard.
