Formerly called Puerto de Cabras, the capital of the island was renamed Puerto del Rosario in the 1960s as a way of refreshing its image. Despite all its efforts, the city has no great charm and very few tourist attractions, except for the the church of San Pedro de Alcantara and the colonial style church of Pago de Casillas del Angel.
