Set on the shores of the Oresund, opposite the Danish capital, Malmö has long been the economic and cultural powerhouse of southern Sweden. It is well known for its numerous parks and long, sandy beaches, located not far from the city centre. As for culture, there is the ancient fortress, which is now a regional museum, the Gothic style Sankt Petri Church, which dates back to the 16th century and the ochre brick Malmöhus Castle. All three are not to be missed on a tour of the city. In terms of architecture, if you travel to Malmö you'll get to see its exemplary buildings. It even boasts a skyscraper named ?Turning Torso? which stands at 623 ft with 54 floors; it is a creation of the Spanish architect, Santiago Calatrava.
