The undeniable talents of the Swedish for design can be seen in a number of public places. The most significant architectural example is Jukkasjärvi in the north, close to Kiruna, with its Ice Hotel. This immense igloo, which is rebuilt every November, contains 120 beds, halls and pillared galleries, an ice bar, a movie hall and a chapel. The furniture, decor and sculptures are all made of ice and every year its exhibition galleries host works by renowned artists, designers and sculptors. This edifice, which lies in the heart of Lapland, takes in visitors from December to 10 May, when it can no longer resist the impending thaw.
