Discover The Zentrum Paul Klee Switzerland

The Paul Klee Centre opened its doors on 20th June 2005 to pay tribute to one of the most important artists of the 20th century, Paul Klee (1879-1940). It highlights everything about the artist (who he was, his life and his works) and also serves as a cultural centre with the goal of making art and culture accessible to everyone. This Modernist artist spent most of his life in Bern and his name is very present in Swiss culture. It isn't surprising, then, that the founder of the centre, Prof. and Dr. Med. E. Müller, put all of his efforts into this outstanding project. Visitors will find 40% of the artist's works in this museum-centre or, in other words, around 4,000 creations out of the 10,000 created by the artist, and thus what is considered to be the largest collection of a single artist of world renown. In addition to the grandeur of the works and the perfect division of the interior spaces, the external architecture is remarkable. The three hills of steel and glass evoke the silhouette of the mountains surrounding the Swiss capital. It is the work of renowned, award-winning Italian architect Renzo Piano, the innovative architect who was also behind other important structures like the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris (with Richard Rogers), the Menil Collection (in Houston, USA), and theKansai Airport in Japan. Inside, the museum is comprised of three exhibition halls, a concert and cultural events hall, and a museum for children, Kindermuseum Creaviva, where the goal is to make art accessible to children from as early as age 4, thanks to the creative activities available for them (a huge point in the museum's favour).
