Bangkok's main flower market is near the Royal Palace and is easily accessible by tuk-tuk (the local taxi). Called Pak Khlong Talat, it runs down Chak Phet Street and two adjacent ones. Both day and night the market is an explosion of colours thanks to the wide variety of flowers that can be found in Thailand, coming from the country's various provinces but in particular from Chiang May and Chiang Rai. The perfumes released by the floral compositions are completely intoxicating. Here, Phuang malai, garlands of jasmine often used as offerings to the statues of Buddha in the temples, are popular among the locals. On the stands inside the market you will find all kinds of spices and food, including sacred peppers, which are responsible for the wealth of Thai cuisine.
