When the powers of the past decided to send English convicts 'down under,' who knew that those 18th century scallywags would actually arrive in paradise? Of course, that will be far from the minds of Prince William and his blushing bride should they choose Australia for their honeymoon. But where to start to make the most of this mammoth country? With everything from mountains and beaches to dynamic cities and unique outback landscapes, Australia has much to offer the royal couple. For blissful beach time, Wills and Kate should head to the Whitsunday Islands, found off the coast of Queensland, some 500 miles north of Brisbane. Each of the 74 islands has its own flavour, but Whitehaven Beach on Whitsunday Island is probably one of the most popular spots, famous for its powder-like white sand and sparkling turquoise waters. Popular five star retreats include the Waterfront Whitsunday Retreat, Qualia on Hamilton Island, and the very secluded Paradise Bay Island Eco Escape on South Long Island. Of course, there is also a host of luxurious private homes and villas with jaw dropping views and the best in home-away-from-home comfort. Outdoorsy types William and Kate would surely appreciate the Red Centre, the desert heart of Australia. From the sheer size of Uluru, to the vivid colours of Kings Canyon, the World Heritage Listed natural wonders of the Australian Outback would surely impress. Longitude 131 boasts a handful of luxurious but "eco-sensitive" tents that overlook Uluru for the most stylish of Outback experiences.
