600 kilometres of slopes, a 100% pedestrian-friendly area and breathtaking landscapes. Three hours by train from Paris, Avoriaz is the ideal place to enjoy a family stay in the mountains. This winter, the Savoyard resort, voted best family ski resort last year at the European Ski Awards, offers dozens of activities that will delight those both young and old.
In a few weeks, thousands of skiers will finally be able to experience the joys of skiing. And to enjoy this festive period with your family, what could be better than a trip to Haute-Savoie? Nestled at an altitude of 1800 metres above sea level in the heart of the vast Franco-Swiss Portes du Soleil, the resort of Avoriaz will welcome its first visitors on December 13. Here are some good reasons to discover this station with its timeless charm.
Avoriaz: a ski resort for young and old
The 600 kilometres of slopes in the Portes du Soleil ski area offer Avoriaz visitors endless possibilities for family fun: 3 beginner areas, 37 green slopes, 123 blue, 100 red and 30 black slopes. The many spaces adapted to all levels promise long hours of fun for everyone from novice skiers to advanced. The resort also has rates adapted to all age groups. Children under 5 years old benefit from a free ski pass. And while at most resorts child ski pass rates are limited to children under 12, at Avoriaz the child rate applies to children 15 and under. A youth rate for 16-19 year olds is also available.
The Children's Village
For more than 40 years, Avoriaz has welcomed skiers-in-training to its Village des Enfants d'Annie Famose, or Annie Famose Children's Village. Covering an area of 5 hectares in the centre of the resort, this ski school allows children from 3 to 16 discover the basics of skiing while having fun. Supported by a team of instructors throughout the day, children will also be able to enjoy many indoor activities (drawing, puppets or clay).
The Lil'Stash: an eco-friendly snow park for children
Avoriaz is home to the Lil'Stash, a snow park dedicated to children aged 4 to 14 who are learning to snowboard! In the heart of the Proclou Forest, a wide blue slope offers a safe introduction to snowboarding. A play area is also available to make learning more fun. At the bend of the forest, it is possible to cross paths with Shreddie, the forest yeti, and discover a village of wooden huts. Lil'Stash is also the ideal place to enjoy a pleasant moment with the family thanks to the picnic area equipped with a self-service gas barbecue.
More than just skiing
We don't just ski in Avoriaz! The estate is full of indoor and outdoor activities particularly suitable for family stays. After a tour of the resort by electric snowmobile or ATV, head for the Ferme de Seraussaix, a farm in the Alpine pastures where you can enjoy a gourmet snack. Then, take a walking or skiing tour of the igloo village and its ice sculptures. Then we will enjoy a relaxing moment at Aquariaz, the Avoriaz water park, where water games and whirlpools will delight the whole family. The evening is an opportunity to compete in a futuristic bowling game using the magic of augmented reality, or to enjoy a movie at the Cinéma Les Portes du Soleil in Avoriaz.
