With pretty much every country over the world on quarantine, many of us now rely more than ever on video chats to keep our social lives going... Social distancing is an incredibly important measure in these difficult times, but it doesn't mean we have to cut ourselves off completely from friends, loved ones, and community members.

For many people, being stuck inside translates into very strong feelings of social isolation and cabin fever, and even broken communication, which is not a nice feeling to add, on top of the current global atmosphere... Thankfully, modern technology is here to help us maintain social connections.

It even led to a very popular virtual trend - the quarantini, which is time you spend having drinks with friends and colleagues on video chat... So get Zoom, FaceTime, Skype, or Google Hangouts ready, and learn how to master some delicious homemade cocktails (virgin options available if you don't want the alcohol in it!).

The quarantini is a cocktail made from whatever spirits and mixers you have at home - basically the equivalent of a stir fry or frittata in a cocktail form.

In order to master it, you simply need to remember the rules of cocktail ratios - 2 parts of your base spirit to 3/4 part sweet, and 3/4 part sour. But do not worry, these do not have to be overcomplicated, and you can use simple things such as basic syrup, lemon or lime.

Jane Danger, national mixologist for Pernod Ricard, even gives the following advice: "Ransack your cupboard. Dried herbs and spices make great salts and sugars. Grind together and rim glass. Dried herbs and spices can also be used to make teas or simple syrups more interesting. Everyone has that one odd bottle laying around. Myself included."

But most importantly, make sure to take advantage of this time to reach out to friends, relatives or co-workers you have lost touch with. Catching up with people is a great distraction in these times, and it will also give you a good reason to get out of your sweatpants, have a shower, and even put some makeup on... So go on, and set a date!
