British travel company Thomas Cook has decided to prolong its cancellation period for any fliers wishing to travel to Tunisia until March 2016.

Tour operator Thomas Cook has prolonged its cancellation period for flights to Tunisia until March 22. Originally the company had postponed flights until February 2016 but has decided that since advice from the Foreign and Commonwealth (FCO) is unchanged, it is safer to recommence flights at a later date.

The FCO advised passengers to only travel to Tunisia unless absolutely necessary after the attack that took place on the holiday resort near Sousse in June earlier this year killing 38 tourists. Thomas Cook hopes to recommence flight services in March, depending on changes to government advice.

Those customers who are supposed to be travelling with Thomas Cook between now and March 22 can either cancel their flights or change them free of charge to "another popular winter sun destination". Anyone wishing to change their booking will also receive a 50 holiday voucher per adult.

Bookings are now available to be made for flights to Tunisia after March 22. However, if the company feels at any moment that the safety of their customer is at risk they will abide by the terms and conditions of the company which is to act in their best interest and remove the tickets.

The tour operator has followed in the footsteps of travel competitors Thomson and First Choice, who also extended their cancellation of flights to Tunisia until March.
