The Palm Islands are an artificial archipelago located off the coast of the UAE in the Persian Gulf. Each island will be in the shape of a palm tree, topped with a crescent, and will have a number of residential, leisure and entertainment centers. Only one of the three has thus far been constructed. This is the Palm Jumeirah, which consists of a tree trunk, a crown with 17 fronds, and a surrounding crescent island that forms an 11 kilometer-long breakwater. The island itself is 5 kilometers by 5 kilometers. On these islands, you will find hotels, holiday resorts (for the first time in the Emirati city), commercial centres, luxury villas and apartments, and a number of artificial beaches.
