Discover Baker's Pit Nature Reserve, Cornwall United Kingdom

Almost equidistant from St Ives and Penzance, the Baker's Pit nature reserve historically sourced the region's clay works. Today, it is an expansive spread of heathland and farming pasture. However, it is the reserve's flooded clay pit which makes it distinct, providing a unique habitat for the region's wildlife. Birdwatchers should look (or listen) out for the whitethroat, usually nestled in hedgerows or perched on a branch. In winter, peregrine and merlin also make an appearance. Gorse is among the more common flora which you'll also find in the area. The China clay works' engine house, which dates back to the mid-18th century, is still standing.
