In Hilo, on Hawaii Island, let yourself get carried away by the charm of a small rainy town, covered with orchid gardens. Downtown, next to the Wailuku River, enjoy the Old Quarter, bordered by colourful painted buildings. Go and see the liveliness at the exotic farmers' market on Wednesday and Saturday mornings, at the corner of Mamo Street and Kamehameha Ave. Attend, early in the morning, the daily auction (except on Sundays) at Suisan Fish Auction. Wander in the Waiakea Peninsula, with its Japanese garden and imposing banyan trees. Admire the Rainbow Falls, a 78 feet-high cascade, where the early morning sunbeams create a rainbow in the haze formed by the waterfall.
